Funchal

The Orchid Garden is a garden dedicated to nature and plants lovers. Here you will find everything in an environment as natural as possible.

Opened since 1991, this work of art located on Monte, Funchal, was designed by José Berardo and includes one of the most important Portugal tiles collections.

The Santa Catarina Park is located in the western part of Funchal, between Avenida do Infante and Avenida Sá Carneiro (avenues) and covers an approximate area of 36,000 square meters, distributed between 9 and 40 meters.

Goes back to the eighteenth century, the desire to give to the Madeira Island a botanical garden.

During the century, severeal scientists and technicians assigned to the Botany, such as J.R. Theodor Vogel in 1841, Frederico Welwitsch in 1852 and the naturalist Baron Castello de Paiva in 1855, stressed the need to create a botanical garden in Madeira, having regard to climatic conditions, important floristic botany and potential.

Almirante Reis Garden is located in the Historic Center of Santa Maria Maior (the Old Town) and integrates the operations of urban regeneration in this area. It is open to the public since November 2001 and occupies an area of approximately 12,940 square meters.

The Vila Guida Viewpoint Garden was built in 1938 and is located at Rua Conde Carvalhal. Presents an area of 2,000 square meters distributed over two levels, running the top as a viewpoint over the Funchal bay.

The Municipal Garden, formerly called Dona Amelia Garden, in memory of the queen, D. Carlos wife,  is located between the Avenida Arriaga (South) and Rua Ivens (North), a street, in Funchal, occupying an area of 8,300 square meters.
